Abstract

as been recently noted that laryngeal paralysis results in a complex in a complex alteration of the glottis. The membranous segment of the paralyzed vocal fold is shortened, and additionally, the angle between the membranous and cartilagenous
segment of
the vocal fold is decreased, resulting in a posterior glottal gap. So, surgical procedure of laryngeal paralysis may be improved by addressing the complex confirmational change of glottis. To determine whether arytenoid adduction corrects the
change of
glottic configuration in unilateral vocal fold paralysis, videolaryngoscopic finding was analyzed in 7 patients before and after surgery. The arytenoid adduction corrected the deficient length and increased the angle between the membranous and
cartilagenous segments of the paralyzed vocal fold at all patients. The authors conclude that the arytenoid adduction is very effective and physiologic procedure for patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis. (Korean J Otolaryngo1 39 : 7,
